Phone Press Conference with EDM artist GAWVI

Most people are familiar with EDM (Electronic Dance Music) artist such as Skrillex, Deadmau5, and Daft Punk. These artists are very popular among festivals because of their pounding beats and bright lights. Among these familiar artists, there is GAWVI, who is known for being an electro pop/ dance artist and for being the winner of the EDM Dove Award. The EDM Dove award is an achievement in the Christian music industry.

Gabriel Alberto Azucena, aka GAWVI, was born to a Salvatorian father and a Dominican mother. His parents always supported and motivated him to have faith within himself. As a child he always had a dream that one day he was going to do something big. He wanted to be a source of inspiration to the Latino community. As a child he grew up listening to Selena and Juan Luis Guerra, who are two well known artist in the Latino/Hispanic community. Indeed, he began growing a passionate inspiration for rhythms such as bachata and Latin-Caribbean. He then used that inspiration which helped him start producing his own music and help his career as an artist expand.

When GAWVI first started his career he was working under the tutelage of hitmakers Rodney Jerkins and Pharrell, but in 2016 he decided to go out as a solo and released two EPs, Lost in Hue/ Holding Hue. They quickly became a major hits, reaching #2 on the Billboard charts and earning play on Spotify. Two of his singles “Late Nights” and “In the water” were very successful.

“In the water” became #1 on the Hot CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) top 40 Radio chart. GAWVI has now released “We Belong”, We belong is an album that projects faith and self-love. In the album there are fourteen songs. The first song is named “Rock n Roll” and has latin infused cumbia beat, Most of the songs from the album carry a lot of emotions in their beats and if you’re into EDM you will really enjoy GAWVI’s music.

Personally, I don’t listen to EDM,  but I did enjoy a few songs from the album “We Belong” such as “Like we Belong” I liked the beats of the song, I could tell there was a lot of hard work put into it. Also, it was catchy and it made you want to dance. Another one of my favorites was “God Speed” the rhythms were really interesting because they seemed to carry emotions and “God Speed” featuring Andy Mineo & KB which I think was a really good idea because it gave the song a more special feeling. Unfortunately, I didn’t really understand the rest of the album because there was a big change in some of the songs. For example, “ the sickness” song number 7 features Jordan Powers, but she sings most of the song. To me it seemed as the song was more hers than GAWVI’s.

Overall, We Belong is a good album if you’re into EDM, faith, and self love. I’d definitely rate it 3 out of 5.
