Fashion Through The Eyes Of A Trojan

Fashion is more than a look, it’s a feeling. Fashion speaks for us when no words are said, it represents who we are. Although we may think that some of us are the same, we all have different points of view and aspects on style.

Although some people may see it as just clothes, fashion can also affect your confidence. Being yourself and being able to express yourself freely can really impact both your mood and energy. If black clothes make you feel more confident, wear them. If neon colors make you more comfortable, then wear them. The feeling will be worth it at the end of the day.

Although I believe every teenager faces the pressure of ego and presentation, it is important to remember that the way you dress only affects yourself. It affects and reflects what type of person you are. The categories are endless from sporty, hypebeast, aesthetic, skater, there’s even people who don’t even fit in one category.

Based on my personal style, I like to go for a 90’s, late 80’s look, representing how much I admire the fashion. Iconic 80’s/90’s characters like Lindsay Weir, Jacky Burkhart, and Veronica Sawyer have influenced me to dress the way I do. Fashion lets me reflect my love for these eras and shows that I like to be unique or different versus thinking about what’s in.

Looking around school, I wanted to pick people that represent different categories and speak through their outfits. These people caught my attention because they displayed who they are and what they wanted to represent.

After speaking to the interviewees, I realized that clothes, fashion as a whole DOES speak for us. It gives us an outlet to just breathe, make a statement, and be able to represent who we are. As teens, we tend to overthink things, this is the time that we are finding ourselves and we might as well just feel comfortable in our own skin. The biggest advice that we can take at this point in our life is to just let us embrace who we are, express ourselves because it is powerful how much we can say with one piece. So next time you are picking out what you want to wear, ask yourself, what do you want to say?
