Music Review: Bad Seed Rising

Maryland girl group, Bad Seed Rising is legitimate rising band, bringing back the old school heavy metal, rock and glam that makes a young crowd want to rave all night. This young group of girls, ages 12-16, are embracing this type of music as well as writing songs of their own. The band is composed of only four members – Francheska, 16, on vocals and guitar, Mason, 13, on guitar, Aiden 12, on drums and Louey, 15, on bass.

The group seemed destined to make this type of music together, according to Louey, since their parents jammed out to the same music and two of the girl’s parents were in a band together. “All of our parents listened to rock music,” said Louey. While Francheska states, “My dad and Aiden’s dad were in a band together. We got introduced to this type of music that way.” As if parental coincidence wasn’t enough, they all met at the “Let there be Rock” music schools and soon started working together. The foursome describes the music they make as loud, aggressive and cool. It doesn’t matter who’s looking, you’re having fun,” says Francheska Pastor about performing their music to the crowd onstage.

The EP Charm City at best gives off a good energetic and almost a heroin chic era sound, similar to Green Day and the sensational Nirvana. The song that was the most intriguing to me was “Hey Kid”; I could picture it going mainstream any second now. The only song that was very unsatisfying was “King Kong” which was really cheesy; I almost cringed at the lyrics; for example Francheska says she feels, “King Kong when you sing my song.” This is corny for a rock band. “Bad Seed Rising” was another good song which I’m sure can put them on the big map.  The sound is very compelling. This song sounds good, and it’s lyrics are rebellious. It’s a good thing they chose this song title as their album title as well; it’ll give it some promotion. As for the other three songs, they were okay, they obviously weren’t the main songs but they weren’t bad at all. Overall, I would give this EP a strong 3\5.

No doubt this group of girls is growing big and fast since they will be touring throughout 2014. The group has a website dedicated to them and their fans badseedrisingband.com. I’m sure we’ll be seeing and hearing more of them. This foursome knows that no matter what the response to CharmCity is, they will keep playing loud rock music. It’s their dream and as Francheska said, “I just want this to become so big that I don’t have to do anything else in my life, just play music, that’s it.”
