Music Review: Nathan Sykes

Music Review: Nathan Sykes

Nathan Sykes was born in Gloucester, England and started his music career at the age of sixteen, joining the boy band The Wanted. Songs like “Glad you came” and “Chasing the Sun” made The Wanted an instant sensation.

Sykes has completely changed his style of music after leaving the group. His music is a mixture of the 60s and R&B. The rhythm of the song is mostly drums and the trumpet that blend well. In an interview with Idolator office states “The tracks are bit more Motown-y.”

“Kiss Me Quickly,” the first single from his new album, was on the BillBoard charts for seven straight weeks. According to an interview on iheartradio.com, Sykes said, “It’s very flirty, it’s quite playful, a bit cheeky. It’s very lighthearted lyrics. So it’s not like the deepest lyric on the album by any means. But it’s like such a fun record and I think it’s very summery as well. And like all the horns in it and stuff I think really give it such a nice lift and such a really cool groove that is really awesome to do live.”

Sykes worked with  Harmony Samuel, Babyface, and Diane Warren, three of the biggest R&B musicians. After hearing the songs, Sykes felt confident with what he can accomplish.  If you enjoy listening to Justin Timberlake then surely you will like Nathan Sykes music. His new sound may surprise fans of The Wanted, but his mature sound shows growth in this young artist, who should gain more fans.

Overall, I would rate this song a 3 out of 5. I do like the song for its rhyme and beat and I would listen to it on the radio, but I would not have it on my personal playlist. I am looking forward to his future music and collaboration.
