Since 1927, Time magazine has chosen a person of the year, someone who had the most impact that year. Usually, a traditional person of the year springs from the Great man theory of history, but this year (surprise, surprise) the one and only Taylor Swift claimed the title.
Swift deserved this title, especially in such male dominated industry. She is an incredibly hard working, and inspirational woman. Through the years, she has received many awards, praise, and love for not only her work but herself as a person.
Swift deserved and won this award by building a world of her own that made a place for so many, creating her story into a global legend, and for bringing joy to a society that needs it.
She started her career at just 17 years old working her way to the top. How? She didn’t give up.
TIME has acknowledge swift hard work, amazing story, and has won due to being the first person from the arts to be recognized and honored for her success as a entertainer
Her Eras tour grossed over $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time. According to Pollstar reporting about this she achieved the impressive feat after preforming 60 shows in 2023. This brought Swift the opportunity of landing a Historic deal with AMC, and winning her 14th Grammy for her Midnight Album, securing the best Pop Vocal Album award. Swift also took the opportunity of announcing her new album, The Tourtured Poets Department as a gift to the public for giving her the opportunity of winning once again another grammy at the Grammy Awards Night.
Aside from Swift being an excellent music creator, Swift has made generous contributions to different organizations, such as the music education center at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Swift, as a 12 time Grammy winner, makes sure to support this organization to keep the history, education, and music inspirations. Swiftdoes not boast about the money she has or donates. She has quietly donated to charity events in Gaza. From her successful tour she had this past year she donated $1 million to Tennessee ravaged by deadly tornadoes. Swift has supported multiple food banks in Tennessee from her past tour.
Swift has had many great accomplishments throughout the years of pursuing her career, such as encouraging voting. She makes sure she lets her fans know the importance and encourages them through her platform and social media. She lets her fans know the importance of letting their opinion and voice be heard.
She began to spread awareness to her 275 million followers in September of 2023 encouraging the opportunity they have to share their voice by voting. She made an Instagram post saying, “I’ve been so lucky to see so many of you guys at my US shows recently. I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are,” Swift said, “Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year! Also including the link to the website where you can vote. NPR showed that 35,252 new registrations on National Voter Day since 2020, had a 23% jump over the last year.
As a woman in the entertainment industry, she has overcome many obstacles, and is both praised and loved. I admire her for her work and achievements throughout her career, especially in such male dominated industry. Swift deserves this award for making a name for herself, and gotten to the point where she is in her career.
I can say that as I myself am a fan of her music, specifically her 1989 album! What has she been up to lately? She is working on releasing two great albums some time this year and I am beyond excited to see what’s more to come of person of the year, Taylor Swift.
