Everyone knows that chicken places are pretty popular. When food was allowed to be delivered by Doordash to school, I would see Wingstop almost everywhere. And now that Angry Chickz is in Salinas, I feel like it would be an immense success in our town. It’s located near the Northridge Mall by the Walmart Supercenter, on the corner of Boronda and San Juan Grade Road.
Personally, I don’t mind fried chicken or anything chicken, but when it’s mixed with something else, it’s impossible to pass up. Unfortunately, where I live my only option nearby is a KFC. So this opportunity is perfect for me to explore a new chicken restaurant that’s a little different from the ones already here.
Angry Chickz is known for mixing chicken with other food and its spice levels. They are mostly known for their Nashville style chicken.
They offer different spice levels, compared to KFC or Wingstop. Angry Chickz has spice levels that can go up to “sign a waiver” referring that the spice is real and that you might have to sign a waiver just in case something happens. Of course, they also offer “mild” and “perfect heat” so you don’t have to “sign a waiver.”
Like KFC and Wingstop, Angry Chickz offers tenders and sandwiches, along with sides like fries and mac and cheese.
I asked the cashier what they recommended and they said the classic seasoned fries with two hot chicken sliders with slaw, so I went with it.
At first the slaw did not appear very appetizing to me, but once I had my first bite that didn’t really matter anymore. The sliders had a kick to them, not as hot but not as mild. It was almost perfect since I can tolerate spice pretty well. It wasn’t that type of spice or hotness that makes your tongue tingle or your nose run. Paired with the crispy seasoned fries, it was a pretty good combination. I also got a coke with the meal, which of course added a freshness to the meal since it was ice cold.
Angry Chickz’s prices are a little higher than the competition. A full meal consisting of fried chicken sliders and seasoned fries with a refreshing drink of your choice is about $20 with a drink. If you compare it to Wingstop, a meal would be around $14 and at KFC it would be $10. But for the price (and taste) I’d say it’s worth it.
The menu has lots of options. Besides the sliders, they have their classics which are the crispy fried chicken wings, boneless strips, and the spicy tenders.
In addition, they offered savory sides like garlic fries and coleslaw. There were also other dishes, such as the Nashville hot chicken sandwich that was a crowd favorite. From what I’ve seen, people really love the spicy mac and cheese, which adds a kick to their meal. I do regret not trying the mac and cheese, but next time I would definitely get it.
Overall, I would rate it a solid 4.6/5 and I would definitely recommend it.
