“Don’t change to fit the fashion, change the fashion to fit you.”
I used to care a lot about the way that I looked to the point where I had to have a perfect outfit every day, but now I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. This is because I realized I don’t care about the way that I look as much as I care about everything else. I care more about school than having the perfect outfit every day.
Now, I dress the way I feel depending on the day. If I am cold in the morning, then I am going to dress warm for the rest of the day. It just all depends on my mood. I dress comfortably but also in something that I still think is cute. If I don’t want to wear jeans because they are uncomfortable then I simply just don’t wear them because it’s not that big of a deal.
Fashion can be interpreted differently depending on the person. It can come from clothes, hairstyles, colors, prints, etc. I like changing my style and don’t tend to stick to a specific one.
When it comes to how I dress daily for school, it depends on the day. Everyone at school tends to dress somewhat in the same “basic” style. No one really tends to dress too differently from each other and the focus seems to be on being comfortable.
Most of the time I stick to wearing hoodies and jeans or leggings for the most part. I dress more for comfort rather than style. I don’t like dressing in all black, but when I do, I have some sort of pop of color within my outfit. This pop of color can come from my accessories, my shoes, and hair accessories like bows.
When my shoes are a pop of color, they can be white, brown, red, or pink. I try to at least have one outfit throughout the week where my shoes are a pop of color.
On Mondays, I tend to dress a lot more comfortably than the rest of the week. I wear either leggings or sweats with a hoodie and my hair in a bun. This is because it is the beginning of the week and I lack the energy to get ready.
As the week progresses, the outfits get better. On Wednesdays, I do try to get a little more ready. This may include maybe doing my makeup or hair depending on how much energy I have. One thing that I always incorporate on Wednesdays is something pink. I either wear a pink shirt, my pink shoes, or a pink bow in my hair. This is because of the movie Mean Girls.
On Fridays, my outfit is a lot better, I think it is the best outfit of the week. I try to straighten or curl my hair and do my makeup. That is the day that I try the most because it is my favorite day of the week. A Friday outfit consists of something comfortable but a lot better than the rest of the week. I would probably do a pair of baggy jeans with a cute shirt tucked into my jeans and my Sambas or Vans.
While I do dress better as the week goes along, I also repeat outfits which I get a lot of compliments. This is because getting those compliments makes me feel a lot more confident in that outfit.
If I get the compliment on the whole outfit I repeat it often in the following weeks. When I get a compliment on just a certain item that I was wearing I tend to use it a lot more often but switch it up by matching it with different clothing items. For example, an outfit I have gotten a lot of compliments for is my brown Nike hoodie and flare cargo pants. Since then, I have started to wear that outfit a lot more often.
A lot of my energy does not go into my appearance though, but rather into school, work, and home chores. I work right after school and get off late, so the energy to get ready for school every day is something that I do tend to lack. I would much rather put my energy into school or work than my appearance since they are a lot more important.
While it’s important to look good and to take pride in your dress, as long as you are comfortable in whatever it is you’re wearing, then that is all that really matters.
