Warped Tour
Getting their start in 1994, the music and extreme sports festival known as Warped Tour has been sponsored by Vans every year since the festival’s existence, for which it has gained the reputation of being known as the Vans Warped Tour Festival. It has become a popular event for teens around the world and been most popular in the United States while also holding shows internationally in places such as Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
The focus of the festival when it first got its start was punk rock, but it has since then expanded to other genres of music like Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, alternative, and electronic. The festival has still stuck to its roots however, as it is still centered on punk rock and other rock sub groups.
Typically as many as 100 bands attend each year through the various stages playing for an approximate 30 minutes. The stages are separated around the venue in a manner that prevents each band from disrupting the other since typically as many 10 bands play at a time.
Warped Tour tours all over the country with several of the shows being in California like LA, Pomona, Ventura, Chula Vista, Wheatland, but will be most notably he held in Mountain View California near San Jose on Saturday, June 21st. With 94 singers and groups in attendance some that will be featured are Breathe Carolina, Crown the Empire, Antiserum, Anberlin ACIDIC, and Yellowcard. Doors open at 11 am and the event tends to end at around 9 pm and tickets range from $45-100 dollars. There is also no fear of going alone since anyone who is under 18 can take a parent for free.
For many first timers, like myself Warped Tour seems like a great show to attend because of the variety of music it offers. The show introduces you to many new groups and artists that you might not have heard about as many of the groups attending aren’t well known. The convenience of several bands playing at once is great because it allows you to go to a different stage if one of the bands playing isn’t one that interests you. Some of the bands I’m looking most forward too are Breathe Carolina, Crown the Empire, and Anberlin, bit I also look forward to listening to new bands. A more in depth review will be written after the show to give my take on the bands and overall show
