Music Review: Parade of Lights

Making Their Way towards the Light

With literally only two songs available to the public on YouTube, Parade of Lights might just head into the light faster than most. Their two singles “Golden and “We’re the Kids show that the group at least has potential. However, in my opinion “Golden” really just seems like a recycled song simply restating a need to have a positive attitude to enjoy life which is obviously not a bad thing to listen to but after hearing it multiple times the feeling that emanates while hearing it sort of just dries out. “We’re the Kids also has some issues like a dependence on repetition to the point where the listener almost feels like a zombie just sitting there.

In all honesty, without seeing a picture of the group I believed the group to be just another boy band. Even the music itself sounds like something a record label writes within a matter of days to impress young, preteen girls. I may be a bit too harsh on the group but their songs sound like everything else already out there. When I first heard “We’re the Kids I had to wonder if it was sung by One Direction or some other boy band. However, the group is actually considered alternative so that at least boosts their image when listening to their music.

However, this review isn’t solely negative. Based on the music videos it seems as though the group actually plays their own instruments, which in this day and age is not something seen among the mainstream artist.

Both songs literally have some of the same notes throughout. It’s all right to have some similarities between songs but to literally have only one sound shows the group is not setting itself up for success. I will admit both songs do have some inspirational messages but the overstated repetition is just too much for this writer. Perhaps it’s due to their lack of songs but the two songs should have been slightly different.

With less than 100,000 views on any of their official videos, Parade of Lights is barely making a name for themselves. After literally having to search for uploads of their other songs it turns out that the group has some other songs that once again are just redone versions of their other songs. However, considering that the group is not that well established it is understandable that their sound is repetitive from song to song. Some of their past songs like “Wild” and “Just like Falling in Love” are actually half decent. One thing that stands out right off the bat is the fact that the non-publicized songs don’t feature as much of a dependency on repetition as “Golden” and “We’re the Kids” do.

Overall, the group is decent, earning them a score of 3/5.  If it hadn’t been for the small detail of the group’s actual ability to play instruments the score would most likely have been a 2. The group does have a light of hope (pun intended) though as their alternative fan base does seem to truly like their sound, at least that’s how it seems in the YouTube comments on their official videos. Maybe if they do change up their sound I might actually consider giving them another chance but as it stands right now I might as well just listen to mainstream singers. I suppose that if you are into alternative groups like Imagine Dragons but prefer a lighter meaning in songs then Parade of Lights is the group for you.
