Vaping – A doubly dangerous habit

Celebrating the Arts
Vice president Saul Luna shared his blackout poem with the club. He took a page out of Coping with AIDS: Facts and Fears and blacked out lines to create a new poem. “The book resonated with me,” he said. He likes being part of the club because it gives him the opportunity to demonstrate his creative writing.
The Writers of Alisal provides an outlet and a safe zone
Although being a student athlete can be stressful when it comes to balancing school, sports, and work, it can be a rewarding experience. Senior Jonathan Murillo Carillo managed to balance all three when he tried out wrestling for the first time this year. “ “When it comes to family events during the week I needed to sacrifice that because of volleyball games or wrestling meets to be there for the team,” Murillo said. “The only regret I have is not joining the sport sooner. I met so many awesome people and am sad it’s all coming to an end.”

How Much Homework is Too Much?
Although being a student athlete can be stressful when it comes to balancing school, sports, and work, it can be a rewarding experience. At the K-Bell Invitational, junior Fernando Herrera ran the 3200m. Herrera placed 7th with 9:40.39 minutes. “Munoz and I have been talking about that this year I was going to try for that two mile,” Herrera said. “The goal for that race was to hit 9:40, which is exactly what I hit. This was a 16 second PR from last season. I got the sixth fastest time in school history.”
Growing pains
Overcoming both physical and mental hurdles, junior Marley Llamas runs 22.01 seconds in the 100m hurdles against North Salinas. “It was a tough race but I was able to push through it,” she said.
Hoping to rise to the challenge
Once fearing the 100 fly, Leonardo Mariscal stepped up when his senior teammate graduated. “I can’t do it easy, but I’m better than I was before. That’s basically what got me into the 100 fly, making it my favorite event because it allows me to challenge myself,” he said.
