In front of the Sterling Memorial on the second day of Bulldog Days, Lizeth Ortiz gets her picture taken by her new Yale friend Sekai Minah. Ortiz will be attending Yale on a full ride. “This was one of the very few moments I actually got to snap a picture of myself because the days were so hectic but so fun. The people I got to meet were incredible.”

While many schools in the district don't have a newspaper, Alisal has had a one for most of the school's existence. Mr. Battaglini's 6th period class (pictured) has 31 of the 50 staff members.

Colleges offering free tuition to low-income students
Junior Jazlene Meza traveled back east to visit Washington, D.C., New York City, and 6 Ivy League schools as part of the Ivy League Project. "Visiting Ivy League campuses across the country was something I never imagined doing, and I’m really grateful, it pushed me out of my comfort zone,” she said.

Before going on a 1.2 mile hike to a nearby beach, the Environmental Club did a stretching circle led by the guides from the Ventana Wilderness Alliance to help prevent any injuries from the walk.

Like many other schools, Alisal recognizes coaches who have done a lot for the school and has a wall of fame for them. Without any update in 20 years, Athletic Director Jose Gil is looking to form a committee consisting of 2 members of the wall of fame, an administrator, 2 veteran teachers, and a student, to honor past coaches..
Coaching legends wall needs updating
Right before a track meet against Salinas high, Student Athletic trainers Rebecca Jimenez and Kristine Saldo tape the ankles of junior Angel Perez and sophomore Flor Amaya to prepare them for their meet. “It's pretty difficult to do the work and if the patient isn't cooperating as well. It’s also harder when they’re more hurt because they tend to be more sensitive when taping, but the process of the taping is to allow them to feel comfort and support on their ankle,” Jimenez said.
Student trainers provide vital support for athletes
Although being a student athlete can be stressful when it comes to balancing school, sports, and work, it can be a rewarding experience. Senior Jonathan Murillo Carillo managed to balance all three when he tried out wrestling for the first time this year. “ “When it comes to family events during the week I needed to sacrifice that because of volleyball games or wrestling meets to be there for the team,” Murillo said. “The only regret I have is not joining the sport sooner. I met so many awesome people and am sad it’s all coming to an end.”
Being an athlete means more than just playing a game
At the K-Bell Invitational, junior Fernando Herrera ran the 3200m. Herrera placed 7th with 9:40.39 minutes. “Munoz and I have been talking about that this year I was going to try for that two mile,” Herrera said. “The goal for that race was to hit 9:40, which is exactly what I hit. This was a 16 second PR from last season. I got the sixth fastest time in school history.”

Mr. Battaglini’s 2nd period AP Language class reads the play “Inherit The Wind”, with each student having a character assigned to read their lines out loud. “Since AP testing is done, I like to finish the year off with a play,” Battaglini said, ”It is one of my favorites and is still a timely play.”

2025 NFL Draft Breakdown: Bold Moves and Big Surprises
My first ever track meet was the time trials at Palma on March 1st. During this meet, I beat my practice PR for both discus and shot put. It was thanks to the helpful instruction from my throwing coaches Carlos Mendoza and Isaac Dueñas that I was able to build confidence in my events. Thanks to them, I ended up making it to the King City’s master meet in my first year of doing track and I couldn’t be more grateful for them. Even though they were off campus, they worked very hard to help the team achieve their goals.

At Center Meet #1 at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, Anahi Rosas and Abigail Bustamante push through the hill together. The team finished in 3rd place, with Abigail Bustamante placing 8th with a time of 22:17 and Anahi Rosas placing 9th with a time of 22:24. “I felt a lot of pain building up in my legs, but I knew I had to keep up with Anahi if we wanted a top 3 finish as a team,” said Bustamante.
