SAT vs ACT – Which should you take?
Members of the book club voted for the next book they will be reading, which will be Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. “I'm glad that everyone agreed on a new book to read,” senior club president Alyssa Annis said. “I was looking forward to getting started on it.”
Book Club makes connections with literature and people
On the first excursion of the program, my group visited the observation deck on the 89th floor of Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world. Here I pose in front of the LED strip design of the building. I walked around, explored the various picture sports, and looked down at the amazing 360 views of the old and new Taipei city.

As the first semester of the school-year comes to an end, Chemistry Honors students are finishing up their last assignments, including a Kami activity on periodic table trends. Reflecting on her experience, junior Jacqueline Gutierrez shared, "My first semester of chem has been a bit of a struggle and it really tested me and my patience but I'm thankful that I've taken the class and that's because it's made me now think of the world in a different way."

SCORE?! My father, Mardo Portillo, and me watching a game replay of football in his room. Barcelona’s forward, Ferran Torres, scored a goal that was barely onside assisted by 17-year-old, Lamine Yamal, putting them ahead on the scoreboard 2-1 in the 82nd minute.
Why I Love The Beautiful Game
In a home match against Alvarez at First Tee, junior Alejandra Alvarez hits an approach shot with her 9-iron from the rough. Alvarez scored a 5 on hole 1 and had an overall match score of 35. The team won this match with a score of 231. Alvarez was named 1st Team All-League.
Girls’ golf team finishes season tied for 2nd in Mission Division
In a match against Pajaro Valley on October 3rd, number 1 singles player and senior captain, Teresa Ochoa, hits a backhand in her win. The team ended up taking the win with a 4-3 score. “It was really hot that day, so I couldn’t wait for the game to be over and I was just telling myself to get the ball over the net,” Ochoa said.
Cherishing the Moments
With the clock running down and the Trojans ahead 33-27, the defense stopped the Sharks at the goal line to seal the win. #1 Carlos Zamora celebrates the stop. “Our defense came up huge against St. Francis and I can't say enough at how proud I am of them as a group,” Coach Estrada said.
Staying the course
Against Soledad on September 30th, Nayeli Gil-Silva and Sara Neumann blocked an attack from Soledad, scoring a point for the Trojans. “I love contact sports and when I'm blocking it makes me feel like I'm telling the other team, ‘You can’t do that!’” The Trojans beat the Aztecs 3-0.

This is a display of some of my adult collector sets, mixed with some smaller ones. It represents a shrine of sets that keep me coming back to Lego due to their difficulty and age range. Some sets, like Optimus Prime, took me 4 hours or multiple days to put together which is what I enjoy from Lego, you never feel bored.
Why I still enjoy collecting Lego
These nails are the last set that I did on myself about 2 weeks ago and lasted me 3 weeks. It took me about 2 and a half hours to do. These nails are medium length and well manicured, with a French tip glossy finish. They are painted a soft pink color and each nail has a delicate white flower design, which adds elegance and creativity. As soon as I saw the final result, I got a surge of confidence and I loved them.

Junior Diego Calderon gets a practice swing in at hole 4 in the season opener at Crazy Horse Ranch. The team finished in the middle of the pack in league, coming in 4th in the league finals, but Calderon was optimistic about the future. “We’ll have a stronger team next season since we are experienced now,” he said.

At a spirit rally at lunch, ASB President Roco Contreras was pied as the “prize” to a game of popping balloons. Senior Angel Izaguirre captured the moment after the pieing, via Rocksbluecam. “I feel this picture justifies the chance of living in the moment,” Contreras said. “It’s off guard, it’s random, it’s being present.”
