Julia Brennan is an 18 year old singer and songwriter whose newest single “Inner Demons” was just released. Brennan started her career because she was in a motorcycle accident where she broke her collarbone and was stuck in the hospital writing songs. Her whole career started when she sent her songs to the radio and her song was played. “It kind of happened almost too quickly for me to think about it,” said Brennan.

In “Inner Demons”,  she talks about someone having inner struggles and battling them. She mentions having demons in her head and hoping angels could take their place to help her mentality. In a press release she talked about how the song isn’t necessarily about her but she knows her friend was going through some things and decided to write a song to help people like her going through the same things.

The music video, like the song, is very calm. In the video, she is just playing different instruments according to the song. She plays the piano a lot while singing. I think this is a good music video that goes with the song because it makes sense as you watch the music video and listen to the song.

Personally this isn’t music I would listen to on a daily basis, mostly because it’s not the type of style I like to listen to, her sound doesn’t really appeal to me. Although I do think her music has a good message, and someone with struggles like the ones she sings about can appreciate her music.

Overall, I think if you are into slower calmer music this is the artist for you. An artist who she sounds similar to is Bea Miller, Sara Bareilles, Christina Perri, and Lia Marie Johnson.  Julia is a very talented vocalist and songwriter. Based on her work you can see how her music she was inspired by artists like Adele and  Sam Smith, who are artists she looks up to.

Overall I would give this song a 4 out of 5 because she is a good singer and the song has a good message.
