In her ASL 2 class ASL teacher Patty Killough signs look at me to get their attention, as some of the students were not paying attention (on phones, talking, etc.). As the language is visual, students must have their eyes on me in order to receive the message, she said. They are unable to simply listen while doing something else.

Many teachers understand the burden of managing overwhelming workloads. AP English teacher Mick Battaglini spends hours reading essays for his class, among other school related activities outside of work hours. “I’m more than willing to read PIQs or write a letter of recommendation for a student, but what these organizations (Nike, Gates Foundation, HSF) are asking is extra work, he said. I understand its voluntary, but If I do that (read essays) for SBAC or College Board, I’m compensated, so the same should be true in this situation.”
Pushing the limits of altruism
The members of the 4x400 relay team - Luz Mejia-Martinez, Massiel Hernandez, Alexa Martinez, and Erika Castro- set a school record at the PCAL Division Championship.
Spring Sports Wrap Up
Assistant Coach Sunil Smith and Coach Fransico Estrada supervise a weight room session. Estrada wants the players to focus on the weight room and their speed workouts in the off season, so they can be more dynamic and competitive during their season.

New flag football head coach Marisol Rasul met with prospective players in her room on May 16. She went over some of the basic rules. “I’m so excited to have football for girls since we never had anything like this before,” sophomore Isabella Garcia said.

Overcoming Loss
For casual days I do just mascara and lip gloss. For mascara I typically keep it consistent by using the Maybelline Sky High in Black and pair it with a lip gloss. The product usually depends on my mood. I tend to buy many lip glosses, some may say too much (like over 50+), but I usually stick with either e.l.f. glowy balm in grape or NYX Fat Oil in Newsfeed.
Yes I wear makeup, and?
I struggled with my phone addiction for a long time in my early teens, and I didn’t fix it until these last two years.

Why did you join the newspaper/yearbook?  Because I thought it was easy and I like taking photos.

After getting him on his back, Rodriguez holds him down as time runs down for near-fall points, resulting in him winning 9-2. “[I was telling myself] I have to win this match no matter what, gotta wrestle smart and keep doing what I’ve been doing all season long,” he said.

At CCS Masters, senior Joselin Hernadez cross-faces her opponent, in the second period. I put a half in and then I was able to pin her, winning the match, Hernandez said. I was nervous because it was CCS and it was right before State and you never know what could happen since Ive wrestled a lot of girls but not really from our area because we went to bigger and harder tournaments and most of the girls at CCS I hadnt wrestled before.

At the Webber Lawson tournament on December 9, 2023, Santiago Chaidez holds down David Bisceglia from Hollister High for a pin. Time ran out for a pinning victory, which resulted in Chaidez winning by decision. “I was a bit fatigued due to the fact the wrestling match was very intense, but I knew that If I was the more aggressive wrestler then I would win, and thats exactly what happened,” he said.
