Every End is a New Beginning
It's been a dream for Fransico Estrada to become head coach of Alisal. Now he's living it while working in the Special Ed department and working on his teaching credentials to become a history teacher. “If I become a history teacher I would bring a lot of energy," he said. "Energy is important and the way you approach topics because if you're low energy your students aren't going to buy into anything.”
Living His Dream
At the second dual meet against North Monterey County, senior Erika Castro started her season hard, winning the 100m race with a time of 13.40 seconds. This was only the start for Castro as towards the end of the season, she ran the 2nd fastest 400m in school history with her time of 59.18 and broke the 4x100m school record with a time of 50.90.

From Practice To Post
After the boys’ varsity swim team secured their win at PCALs, the team jumped into the pool one last time to celebrate their win. “It was good feeling knowing that we showed up at practice and knowing our hard work paid off,” junior Chris Alvarez said. “Everyone was excited and it was a fun moment.” (alisal_swimming)

In an attempt to break the tie, outside hitter Angel Mejia delivers a powerful spike against Hollister. Despite the team's efforts, the boys lost 0-3. “We were filled with overconfidence,” he said. “We beat them at the start of the league season and we forgot we still needed to give the game our fullest until it was too late.”

Allowing only two hits over seven innings, junior Nevaeh Lopez was unstoppable against rival Carmel as they competed with one another for the #1 spot in the league; they were victorious in a 7-1 game.
Another Title, Another Statement Season
In a fight day organized by Valley Fight Series, freshman Erik Ruiz-Gonzales won his 3rd muay thai fight by TKO. Setting his record at 3-0, “I was just happy that I won,” he said. “Before the fight I already knew that I was going to win.”
The Discipline to Fight: Gaining Confidence Through MMA
Yarit Rordiguez makes a jump shot against Milpitas in the preseason, before her big ankle injury. After so many injuries and sitting out on games, Rodriguez continued to remain positive and kept moving forward. “My family helped me to understand and believe that everything happens for a reason and to not give up,” she said.

If the Shoe Fits
This was at the Castroville Rec. Center where my parents set up every Thursday and they are usually there from 1:00 PM - 7:30 PM. They also work at a farmers market in Watsonville every Friday from 1:00 PM until 7:30 PM - 8:00 PM and they also go to Greenfield and King City every single Sunday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. When I first saw Nova, she was hiding under an SUV. After coaxing her out with a chicken nugget, I was able to give her a proper home.
Brightening up my Life
This is a display of my figures. It brings me joy every time I see it when I walk into my room and it represents a lot of hard work since I had to fund everything myself by selling online while keeping up with sports. A lot of people might just see this as pieces of plastic or toys, but to me this is a work of art.
More Than a Collection
This is the display of my current Monster High dolls, from different collection lines. It’s a mix of different characters I previously owned and it reminds me of the joyous times when my dad would take me and my older sister to the store every Sunday to buy new dolls. Being able to see my personality traits in multiple characters is what shaped who I am now.

Goals: End the year with at least a 2.7 GPA since that is what colleges look for. To pass my AP Lang exam with at least a 3 or above. 

3 words that describe you: Dedicated, disciplined, talkative

Why did you join the newspaper/yearbook? Joined because she took it in 8th grade but no one took it seriously and really enjoyed how that class went. 

Likes: Coraline, dedicating myself to things, people being themselves. 

Dislikes: February and March because they’re between winter and spring.

What makes you stand out? When I get  into something, I completely commit to it.

Top 5 favorite things? Rainy days, dark mornings, 2 am, Saturdays, and road trips.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Veterinarian because she always wanted to be a doctor but didn’t really see herself as one so a veterinarian is something similar.

Top 5 things you don’t like? The intermission between winter and spring, dry people, giving too much and not receiving anything back, ghosting people and getting ghosted, and forgetting important things.
