In her ASL 2 class ASL teacher Patty Killough signs look at me to get their attention, as some of the students were not paying attention (on phones, talking, etc.). As the language is visual, students must have their eyes on me in order to receive the message, she said. They are unable to simply listen while doing something else.

Many teachers understand the burden of managing overwhelming workloads. AP English teacher Mick Battaglini spends hours reading essays for his class, among other school related activities outside of work hours. “I’m more than willing to read PIQs or write a letter of recommendation for a student, but what these organizations (Nike, Gates Foundation, HSF) are asking is extra work, he said. I understand its voluntary, but If I do that (read essays) for SBAC or College Board, I’m compensated, so the same should be true in this situation.”
Pushing the limits of altruism

Spring Sports Wrap Up

New flag football head coach Marisol Rasul met with prospective players in her room on May 16. She went over some of the basic rules. “I’m so excited to have football for girls since we never had anything like this before,” sophomore Isabella Garcia said.

Overcoming Loss
For casual days I do just mascara and lip gloss. For mascara I typically keep it consistent by using the Maybelline Sky High in Black and pair it with a lip gloss. The product usually depends on my mood. I tend to buy many lip glosses, some may say too much (like over 50+), but I usually stick with either e.l.f. glowy balm in grape or NYX Fat Oil in Newsfeed.
Yes I wear makeup, and?
I struggled with my phone addiction for a long time in my early teens, and I didn’t fix it until these last two years.

Last thing you binge watched? Why? The Summer I turned Pretty because I heard good things about the show.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? Dedicated, compassionate, and curious.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Attending university, preferably the UC San Diego, working towards a degree in Psychology.

Why do you do what you do in sports? I put a lot of dedication towards running because I know that it is beneficial . I have a goal to set a PR of 23 minutes in Cross Country.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Being on my phone.

Things you don’t like? Country music.

Why did you join newspaper/yearbook? I joined newspaper/yearbook because I enjoy taking pictures and putting them together into my own thing.

Something interesting about you? I’m a vegetarian.

What is the best thing about Alisal? The opportunities that the staff gives their students to succeed.

During her first period English 12 class, Ms. Bernasconi goes over the SUHSD writing prompt and instructions for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time essay assignment. “I love teaching English because you can bring so many things in; we can read about scientific discoveries, we can read about history, we can read about contemporary times top 100 influencers, it all fits perfectly under the English umbrella,” she said.

In a non-league game on January 27, the Trojans tested their abilities against Berkeley. The game was a tight and ended in a draw, 1-1. Berekely was a tough opponent and we ended up drawing the match, but it was a good game and I felt like it helped us become a stronger team for the rest of the season, Trejo said.
